Bags are packed, boots cleaned and shin guards at the ready, the VMFC bandwagon is crossing the Atlantic to compete in the 2007 IGLFA World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A squad of 16 players will be accompanied by a barmy army of VMFC supporters in the hope that the club can go one better than the last tournament which was held in Copenhagen in 2005. On that occasion the team narrowly missed out in a close final against Paris , after finishing 1-1 they lads were unlucky to miss out on penalties.
Manager Stu Butters said: "everyone who was involved in 2005 knows what a fantastic experience it was and taking a team to Argentina is a great opportunity to see how far we have come as a team against the best gay football clubs in the world and continue where we left off in Copenhagen by representing Manchester on the world stage", he added, "we want to show the rest of the gay football world what Manchester is about by representing the Village both on and off the pitch. Most importantly we have made the trip to enjoy ourselves but when it comes to the football we will want to be as competitive as we can and who knows, we might go one better than last time around and bring the trophy to this city for the first time!".
