FWL2017: We chat with DJ Paul Coals about Twisted

We catch up with DJ Paul Coals, the man behind Twisted, to find out about what to expect from the latest addition to the official FWL2017 party lineup.
Recon: Hi Paul
Tell us a bit about Twisted. How did it come about?
Paul Coals: After years of partying around the world, I felt there was an opportunity for a new men's fetish brand that offered a cruisy-sexy-fun atmosphere… one that was more about music and, most importantly, could travel and adapt to different locations. The scene has changed so much in recent years and these days it often just seems to be about drugs. I wanted to bring the cruise, social and playful side to a party back.
The Twisted mix? Hot, horny, sweaty, virile guys with a love of music and definitely the masculine side of play, mixed with great shows, dancers and other special surprises.
The timing seems to have been perfect and the last two years have been an absolute blast. We've had so much interest. Twisted's had some thirty or so parties these past two years alone… across the UK, Europe and North America. The success of launching London also resulted in turning Twisted into a monthly event at The Hoist, the capital's infamous leather and fetish venue. With The Hoist having closed, we're now looking for venues to relaunch in style. Watch this space ;-)
R: How would you describe Twisted to someone who'd never been?
PC: Twisted is definitely about the crowd and the music. With a naturally dark, underground theme, the music policy is generally deep, energetic, dirty tech house, but there also chill out and quieter social spaces too.
All fetishes and kinks are definitely welcome, TWISTED attracts a full range of hot guys into leather, rubber, sportswear, boots and uniforms, including naked …. all types of pigs, daddies, masters and slaves, puppies and handlers, twinks, bears and muscle guys coming together to cruise, socialise and have fun. Our masculine environment and the crowd we attract is also enhanced by the fact we allow guys wearing jeans and harnesses in too. Our mission …. bring together the horniest group of guys in town.
TWISTED offers some of the leading fetish DJs. These have included, alongside myself, Jack Chang (Germany), Spencer Reed (USA/kink.com), Alejandro Alvarez (Cologne), Jesus Pelayo (Spain, Real Bad SF), Paul Heron (London), Saeed Ali (Netherlands), Cory Craig (New York), Ron Hamelin (Montreal), Neil Macleod (Toronto) and Jon Frost (London).
R: You put on Twisted all over the world. What are you some of your favourite destinations for your parties?
PC: We've been really lucky that TWISTED events have now featured not only in the UK, but also across Europe and North America. Fort Lauderdale has to be one of my favourite locations – we always get an amazing turn out. Gran Canaria is always a blast with people in the holiday mood! I'm now looking forward to Washington DC, Los Angeles, Denver and San Francisco again later in the year.
London is also one of my favourite locations…watch out for news of one of the horniest parties in town being announced later in the year… a collaboration of fur and muscles!!
R: Do the parties have a different feel depending on the country you're in?
PC: Yes, the feel can definitely change. I'd probably say they are more raunchier in Europe and much more dance focused in the US. The laws in America are a bit stricter as to what you can and can't do, especially when it comes to dancers and performers.
Also, customers also have differing tastes in music – it always fascinates me how that can change… In the US, the audiences like more vocals… Europe definitely likes its deep house and techno.
R: This is your first time teaming up with Recon to put on Twisted for FWL2017. What are you looking forward to most about the party?
PC: Being part of FWL2017 is amazing. Both the venue and line up of DJs, dancers and hosts are getting me most excited. It's going to be an explosive fusion of dance beats and sleaze as the Official Friday night dance event, to get everyone in the mood for the hottest fetish weekend in London.
It took us a while to find a new venue – something a bit fresh that will offer a unique experience. Electrokwerz right behind Angel tube station is just that. The team there are great and we're looking to forward to working with them to host the official dance party of FWL2017.
We're also working with the guys from Torture Garden Productions on some of our theming and production – it will be something to remember and we're having loads of fun planning it!
R: What can guys expect from this party in particular?
PC: Electrowerkz is a stunningly atmospheric 19th Century Victorian warehouse in the heart of London right behind Angel tube station. Twisted will be taking over three floors with two dance rooms, a huge dungeon style cruising maze plus a big chill-out courtyard and stunning smoking terrace.
We've one of the global fetish industry's sexiest super hunks and TITANMEN supremo.. Dirk Caber... hosting the party, dancing and giving out shots to all our horny customers. Guys will recognise Dirk from his infamous TITANMEN ROUGH videos. We've also got uber sexy go-gos Paul McNulty and Andres Santana dancing on stage.
R: Will you be attending any of the other parties during the week?
PC: Sure, it's going to be a fun week… I'm going to be attending Sports Gear on Thursday night. Full Fetish on Saturday night is going to be great fun as well. Will try and fit in a brunch too, before heading to Deconstruction.
R: And while we're at it, would you say you've got any fetish/kink leanings yourself…?
PC: Hehe…I'm definitely the boss ;-)
